Operation Christmas Child Service Project!

Please meet at the church at 4:15pm. Please bring some money for dinner as we will stop on the way. We should arrive back at the church around 11:15pm.

Every year, we take a trip up to the Operation Christmas Child warehouse where we sort through Christmas shoeboxes, which are sent all over the world to the poor and to those who cannot afford gifts. We do this because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. God gave the greatest gift for us in his Son and we respond by giving time and money to those in need.

This year, we will be taking 15 youth and 5 adults. If you are interested in going, please let Brian Cosby or Heidi Sweet know as soon as possible because space is limited!

Cost for the training is $5. The book we will be using this year is Humility by C. J. Mahaney (available in the church bookstore). Classes will meet in the Fellowship Hall and will replace normal D-Groups. All youth and D-Group leaders/Youth Shepherds are encouraged to attend, even if you are not planning on going on a mission trip.

In order to go on a mission trip with the youth at Carriage Lane, you must:

Homeless Outreach Opportunity

Carriage Laners will be providing gifts for homeless men and women in Atlanta again this Christmas season. If you would like to make a boxed gift, you may bring it with you when we go downtown. Also, if you have any extra clothing, it would be appreciated. Remember, that this is not just something that we should do and feel good about ourselves, but rather being motivated by the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are to be the hands and feet of him who called us to bear witness to him. FOOD: Chick-fil-A will be serving chicken sandwiches for $2.50 there, but you are welcome to bring a sack dinner if you would like.

Each year, millions of shoe boxes are sent all over the world as gifts to those who have little to nothing. For many, this Christmas shoe box is the only gift they will receive for years. The youth at Carriage Lane have been involved over the years in collecting these shoe boxes and spending an evening at one of Operation Christmas Child's (OCC) distribution centers in Atlanta.

This year, we will head to Lawrenceville to OCC's warehouse to sort through and pack these shoe boxes before they are sent off. Space is limited and, right now, all spots have been filled. Also, OCC will not allow anyone under 13 years of age to work and all youth will need to sign a release form for OCC (If you have not received one, click here to download and print).

Come join us as we escape to the beautiful Calvin Center (click here for website) and enjoy fellowship, study, prayer, and fun this fall as we take a look at the theme: "Sex and the Supremacy of Christ," based on the book edited by John Piper and Justin Taylor (copies available in the CLPC bookstore). In a culture bombarded with sex and sexual images - and void of true intimacy - we want to present the biblical design of sex, marriage, and relationship.

Service Project to the Homeless of Atlanta

Sunday, December 20th

We will leave immediately after the morning service and go to the Peachtree/Pine Homeless shelter parking lot in downtown Atlanta. We will serve hot chocolate, hand out gifts, and give hugs where they are needed. You are welcome to pack a shoebox with special gifts to bring with you.

You will need to coordinate your own ride up, so bring your parents! For more information, call Jim Mitchell (number in church directory). Please bring different clothes than your church clothes to change into after the worship service.

We will probably stop by the Varsity on the way home (for lunch/dinner) and be back at the church around 5:00pm. If you want to bring a snack to eat in the car on the way up after the worship service, than you are welcome to.

Thursday, Dec. 3rd!

This is a great opportunity to give back and serve others around the world. The Christmas shoeboxes will be given to children in over 100 countries around the world.

We will meet at the church at 4pm in order to make it over to Lawrenceville by 6pm. Our shift is from 6-10pm, so we will probably get back to the church around 11:15 to 11:30pm.
Bring a few dollars to grab some pick-up dinner on the way if you want.
You will need to fill out a permission form (if you are under 18) from Brian and let him know if you want to go so he can put your name down on the list. There are only 25 total spots so please let him know soon!

An Evening of Worship with Haitian Pastor Claudel

MOHH is the organization that hosted our Senior High youth mission trip this past summer. Claudel has flown in from Haiti and is touring the US with Otis Garrison, the US Director of MOHH. This is open to anyone who may want to come a worship or simply learn more about Haiti. Claudel is a passionate man who loves Jesus and it will be a blessing for all who come!

Wednesday Night Studies

Over the past few months, we have been dealing with very practical day-to-day issues as well as the theology and significance of the Protestant Reformation.

It occured to me that this is exactly how the gospel works - in every day life! For example, what is the gospel response to anger, parents, presents, gratitude, hate, or school? It is taking a step back, a look from above to see your situation from heaven's perspective.

We will continue to see how the Gospel affects our attitudes and approach to unbelievers, people from different religions, war, evil and suffering, etc. So come and be ready to think and explore how the gospel can transform you!

Camp Vesper Point (Tennessee)

It is that time to gear up for a weekend of teaching, worship, activities, good food, and great fun! This year, we are heading up to Camp Vesper Point (http://www.vesperpoint.org/) in Soddy Daisy, TN - in the mountains and overlooking a lake.

This year's theme will center on "The Feast of the Father," taken from The Prodigal God by Tim Keller. Copies will be available for purchase in the bookstore beginning Sunday, Sept. 13th.

Cost: $45 (includes travel, food, gift, activities, and lodging!)

Release form: Parents will need to fill out a liability and medical release form, which you can acccess here! I need these forms and money back no later than Sunday, September 20th.

Meeting and arriving: We will meet at the church at 5:15pm on Friday, Sept. 25th (PLEASE BRING A SACK DINNER!)and get back around 2:00pm on Sunday, Sept. 27th.

The evening/morning will be packed full of group games, free time, snacks, ping pong, etc. We will have a pancake breakfast - provided by chef Aaron and chef Brittany - and then be ready to leave by 8:45 AM on Tuesday.

What to Bring: Sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, maybe a change of clothes (if you want), good attitude, your favorite board game, additional snacks if you want them

What NOT to Bring: inappropriate clothing, "M" Games, bad attitudes, airsoft guns (or any gun for that matter!), fireworks, or pigs feet.

There will be separate places for the girls and guys to sleep and plenty of chaperones.

CLYM Spring Retreat!

April 24-26

We are going to be heading to Camp Westminster in Conyers, Georgia (http://www.campwestminster.org/) for a weekend of worship, discipleship, fun, and really good food!

We will meet at the church at 5:30 to load up and then head out by 6:00pm on Friday, April 24th. Please bring a SACK DINNER with you as we will not be stopping for dinner on the way. We will actually be staying there through lunch on Sunday and then getting back mid afternoon on Sunday. We will have the youth call when we are about 20-30 minutes out to give a more accurate ETA.

If You Didn't Turn In Your Pre-Missions Book Form (the orange sheet) On Time...

Don't worry, you can still go on a mission trip this summer! But, in order to make up, you will need to do one of the following options before April.

Write a 2-page paper on the biblical reason for missions.
Write a 2-page paper on the biblical understanding of responsibility.
Complete a work day with the deacons.

Though this might be thought of as a "punishment," it is really designed to teach something and to show the importance of responsibility. I probably need to clarify something too...you need to do one of these three options if you didn't turn in your form on time. If you read the book in time, that is all well and good, but that is not what we asked. We wanted the FORM turned in. This showed us your level of commitment to going on a mission trip. You couldn't have turned in your form without reading the book (well, I guess you could have), but it is the form that we wanted by March 1st. If you didn't turn your form in on time, then you will need to do one of the above options. Please have one of these completed by April 5th.

Valentine's Parent's Night Out!

If you are a parent, drop your children off at the church and take your bride out for the night and enjoy some needed time together!

We will not provide dinner, so please feed your child before he or she comes.

Youth Purity Conference

January 23-24

How in the world are we to strive for purity for the glory of God when we are constantly bombarded with pornography, sexual content, and peer pressure? As sinful people, we have a knack to take what is good and make it ultimate--thereby turning it into an idol. Sex sells. Sex is worshipped. And sex is often equated with love. This conference is meant to provide students with a safe place to learn and discuss the issues related to sex, dating, and purity.

We are pleased to have a special guest speaker, Tal Prince, who travels across the country speaking about these issues. As a recovering porn and sex addict of over 25 years, he knows this pressure and how it affects young people. Alarmed at the incredible rise in sexual addiction inside the church, Tal believes that the time has come to talk openly about our struggles and live out James 5:16 - "Confess your sins one to another and pray for one another that you may be healed." 2009 Youth Mission Trips

1. Cherokee Hope - Yup, it's the 11th year! We will be heading once again to Cherokee, NC from June 13-20 to work with the native-american community. The cost is $525/person and is open to both Jr. & Sr. High students (current 7th-12th graders). Check out its very own website here!

2. Haiti - That's right. We will be flying to the poorest country in the western hemisphere from July 18-25 to work with a local orphanage. The cost is less than $1300/person including flight and is open only to Sr. High students (current 9th-12th graders). Make sure you go ahead and apply for a passport if you don't already have one!

4. Must pass the Pre-Missions Class*

*The Pre-Missions Class is a three-week course in the winter. Operation Christmas Child

Thursday, December 4th

When: meet at 4:30pm at church; get back at 11:00pm

Where: Downtown ATL Operation Christmas Child assembly line

Why: To sort through boxes to be sent to children in need around the world and to pray for them and their families.

Age Requirement: 13

Shoes: Closed-toed

Due to Thanksgiving and family time, we will not have our normal Wednesday evening youth group on November 26th. Enjoy the night with the family and friends - giving thanks to the Giver of all gifts!

Youth Reformation Party!

When? October 31st from 7-10pm

Where? Fellowship Hall

What? We will have (1) treats and drinks, (2) a Reformation activity, and (3) watch the Luther movie. If you want to know more about the Luther movie and read a review, click here!

Why? On October 31st 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenburg, sparking what became known as the Protestant Reformation.

We remember this event as one of the great movements of church history - calling all people to remember that we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, which is revealed in Scripture alone and all to the glory of God alone! These have become known as the Five Solas (solas meaning "alone").

To celebrate this movement, we are going to be having a Reformation Party on Friday, October 31st. Yes, you've noticed...that's also Halloween. So this is an alternative to Halloween.

So come dressed as a Reformer (do some research if you're not sure what that looks like). We will have a contest to the best dressed!

Ropes Course Challenge - Saturday, November 8th!

That's right! We are heading to The Calvin Center to do the high- and l0w-ropes courses. The Jr. High will be doing the low ropes and the Sr. High will be doing the high ropes. For some pictures, click here!

We will meet at the church at 7:30am! We will do the ropes courses in the morning and have lunch at the Calvin Center and should be back by 2pm.

Please wear closed-toed shoes. No sandals please.
